About the Book
In 1875, the nation was deeply divided over the evils of alcohol. When Gilbert Freeman runs away from his Ohio farm, he plans to leave his troubles behind. Instead, he stumbles into the middle of the fight against a saloon opening in the dry town of Westerville.
His family stands against alcohol, but Gilbert finds a job with saloon owner, Harry Corbin. Now he must choose one side or the other before his indecision breaks the relationship with Rose and other new-found friends and destroys the slender tie he has to his father.
When the opposition to the new saloon erupts into real violence, Gilbert decides to find the culprit before someone gets hurt.
