A Contemplation of Mourning (Webinar)
Time: 6:30pm - 7:30pm
Location: GoToMeeting (Adult Services)
Listen as essayist Shannon Lakanen reads from her most recent work, a contemplation of absences and "goneness." Exploring the last weeks of her father's life, Lakanen weaves in her fascination with Amelia Earhart's disappearance, visits to war memorial sites in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Vietnam, and the natural phases of destruction and renewal in Iceland, to uncover the visible absences surrounding us.
The essay chronicles her journey through the devastation of the earliest stages of grief to reveal how loss can eventually propel us back toward a more inhabitable, sometimes even joyous, present.
