Entry Guidelines

  1. Submit an Entry: An entry form must accompany all submitted films. Submit an entry.
  2. Upload to YouTube: Films can be submitted by uploading to YouTube. If you do not want to create a YouTube account please submit a DVD or USB flash drive with your video to the Adult Services Department.
  3. Keep It Short: Films must adhere to the time limits specified in the Film Categories (below). Time limits include title and credits. Films that are too short or too long will be disqualified.
  4. Mention a Book: All entries must creatively make use of a book at some point in the film or mention a character from the book if creating a book trailer. Any published book may be used as well as any character from a published book. No textbooks, please.
  5. Keep It Clean: All entries must adhere to G or PG rating guidelines. More information.
  6. Eligibility: Contest open to filmmakers residing in Franklin and Delaware County, Ohio.
  7. Deadline: All entries must be submitted by Friday, August 1 at 11:59pm.

Film Categories

You can choose to create a film based on one of the four categories listed below.

  • Documentary: A film or TV program presenting the facts about a person or event. Length: 5-10 minutes
  • Feature Film: The principal (full-length) film in a program at a movie theater. Length: 5-10 minutes
  • Music Video: A commercial videotape featuring a performance of a popular song, often through a stylized dramatization by the performers with lip-synching and special effects. Length: 2-5 minutes
  • Book Trailer: A book trailer is a video advertisement for a book which employs techniques similar to those of movie trailers. Length: 2-5 minutes

Age Categories

You will be asked to submit your film to one of the following age categories.

  • Adult: 18+
  • Teen: 13-17
  • Youth: 0-12

Winning entries will be shown during a special screening at the Gateway Film Center on August 17. Find out more.

The film festival committee will judge all entries on August 6, 2014. All filmmakers will receive recognition at the festival. View the judging rubric.

Definition of Short Film

Any film that has a duration longer than one minute and shorter than 15 minutes.
