Before You Get Started

Before you delve into the vast amount of legal information available in books and on the web, ask yourself the following questions to help narrow your search:

  • If applicable, what court are you dealing with? Is it a state, federal or county court? For help in determining a court, take a look at this flow chart.
  • What type of information are you looking for? Are you interested in the results of a lawsuit, the proper forms to file, or the right person to contact?
  • What subject might your legal issue fall under? For example, if you're looking to annul your marriage, your issue may fall under terms such as domestic relations, family law or divorce.

By asking these questions ahead of time, you may be able to save yourself some time and frustration!
